It has been a very busy start to the year for VDBC. Here is a small snapshot…
A number of members travelled to Echuca for the annual Southern 80, with a number of boats on display.
Although the 80 was a little quieter than recent years, we came home with 20 new club members.
Patterson River Precinct Project
You may have heard there is some work being under taken looking at how the upper and lower precinct of the Patterson River is currently being used and how the area can be improved. It is clear to all the facilities particular in the upper precinct (which includes the National Water Sports Centre area) have seen better days and improvements could significantly increase the use of the area by current and future users.
The club is actively involved and promoting improvements that will not only benefit the club but other user groups and the local community. Shannon, Steve and Jacki recently attended a workshop with other user groups and government departments. Options for the area are being developed by a project team over the next month or so, when the club receives more information we will make sure it is available to all.
The Victorian Drag Boat Club would like to thank everyone who had completed the survey on the future of the NWSC and Patterson River.
Tim Richardson MP campaign office opening
Shannon, along with the Day family recently attended the opening of Tim Richardson MP campaign office.
On the night they got to meet several politicians and promote the club and our events.
Al even had an extended chat with our Premier, Daniel Andrews. Way to go Al…
Don’t forgot our trivia night is this Saturday 3 March at the Dandenong Club.
A big thank you to all our sponsors for the night.
Last year the club applied for a government grant under the Stronger Communities Programme.
We worked with other users of the NWSC to identify potential improvements to the centre that we could finish before 30 June, one of the conditions of the funding.
We received $5,000 and this will be used to purchase and install bench seats manufactured by a local company using recycled materials.
So look out for the new bench seats. We are hoping to draw on our experience applying for this funding to apply for other grants to continue to improve facilities.
Next race meetings
We have two more race meetings scheduled for the 2017/18 race season.
April 8 is the final of 3 national meetings.
May 6th is an open day and our final race meeting for the season.
Hope to see you at one or both race meetings.
Cheers Rowie VDBC President.
National Titles Series II 25-2-2018
The weather was not super kind, however the racing was exciting to watch, with Dave in his boat "Energy" getting some air time and Bottle Fed screaming down the liquid quarter mile as always cranking it, it is great to see Aaron in his boat Outkarst that is back in the mix and Gremlin a first timer in his little wood crafted boat had some very quick starts off the line, a very smooth boat
that trims off very nicely on the water, with consistent 75mph runs, many thanks to Chris for bringing the boat down and having a go.
It was a very entertaining day on the bank.
