Newsletter No.3 for 2018

It continues to be a busy year for VDBC. Here is a small snapshot…

Summary of Race Season to Date

We knew the April 8 race meeting was shaping up to be the biggest meeting and we were not wrong.
We could not have wished for better weather, although it would have been nice if we still had daylight savings so we could have finished packing up before it got dark!

Boats came from far and wide and this meant we had two additional racing classes along with the Bill Davis Memorial and Yella Terra Cup.
There were also lots of cars on display, so thanks you to everyone who made it such a great day.

Among the crowd were local MPs Tim Richardson (Member for Mordialloc) and Sonya Kilkenny (Member for Carrum).
As Sonya herself said on Facebook, it was the fastest and most adrenaline fuelled day of the year. While in the tower being interviewed by our very own golden tonsils Al Joy, Tim Richardson commented on how impressed he was with the day and spoke about the recent funding announcement and improvements we are soon to see at the National Water Sports Centre (NWSC).

The club really appreciates the support of both MPs in progressing improvements to the NWSC.

Here is a quick summary of the winners from all 3 race meetings.

Patterson River Precinct Project

Concept Plan

As you have probably heard by now as we haven’t been shy in letting everyone know, on Wednesday, March 14th, 2018 the Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews announced $3 million in funding for improvements to the National Water Sports Centre (NWSC).

This is fantastic news for the club and all users of the NWSC.

The results of the Patterson River Survey were released on Friday.
Our club had the fourth highest number of responses from all identified groups, so one again thank you to everyone that responded.

Priorities for all users included:

The options report is expected to be available in late April and there will be an option for the community to indicate their preferred option via a survey. We would really appreciate it if as many club members as possible could take the time to provide indicate their preferred option. We will send more details as soon as they are available.

In the meantime, if you want to read the entire report (it is only 9 pages), it is available on the Engage Victoria website at Patterson River Concept Plan

Trivia Night

Trivia Night

The club trivia night on Saturday March 3rd was a tremendous success with over 80 people there.
Although some tables took it more seriously than others everyone had a great night.

Graeme did a wonderful job as MC, although a times it appeared Al Joy was missing having a microphone in his hand!

It must have been a great night as we have been asked when the next one will be.
If you were not able to join us, do not worry as this will not be the only one.

A huge thanks to Bec, Rosie and all those involved, as we know it was a big effort to put on such as successful night.

More detail on both those events will be provided shortly.

If you have ideas for other social events or would like to help organise an awesome social event, contact Alan via e-mail: enquiry@vdbc.com.au.
